History and Legacy
SRP (Socialist Republican Party) was a political party associated with Kerala's social and political history. The party's origins are closely connected with the SNDP Yogam. Historical accounts state that the SNDP Yogam decided to form a political party in November 1974, and the SRP was formally established on 13 March 1975. Its stated objectives included social justice and the advancement of backward communities, Dalits and minorities, within a democratic, socialist, secular and casteless social framework.
One important part of SRP's political history was its involvement in demands concerning social justice and communal reservation. Historical accounts describe the party as supporting implementation of the Mandal Commission recommendations.
